Founder and Beginnings of the Organization

Currently, the president and founder of the Cultural Association Centro Selva Arte y Ciencia is artist and researcher Diana Riesco-Lind. The vice president of Centro Selva is Hilma Lind del Aguila, general manager of the company Márgenes del Bosque.

With the support and guidance of Dr. Manuel Mauricio Gonzales, artist Karen Niemczyk, artist Kike Riesco, and artist Liz Tania Díaz Vela, Centro Selva began its activities in 2012.

Centro Selva Arte y Ciencia – Timeline

2012: Founded by artist and researcher Diana Riesco-Lind, who holds a Master’s degree in Art with a specialization in Digital Media from the Valand Academy, University of Gothenburg, Sweden, where she developed a thesis on migration and identity construction. She also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Art with a specialization in Painting from the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, with a thesis analyzing the evolution of Shipibo-Konibo art and its influence on contemporary Amazonian art.

2012–present: Organization of artist residencies with participants from over 20 countries, including Australia, Argentina, Germany, Belgium, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Denmark, Slovakia, the U.S., France, Israel, Mexico, Poland, Sweden, Japan, the U.K., Russia, Singapore, Turkey, Zambia, and Peru. These residencies have taken place in Ucayali, Peru, with exhibitions and discussions open to the public in Ucayali, Lima, and online.

2013: Centro Selva en Lima: Tránsitos y Confluencias exhibition at Casa O’Higgins, Lima. Featured artists from Ucayali, residency participants, Shipibo-Konibo masters, and works from the Torre Tagle Museum collection, curated by Luis Repetto.

2017: Centro Selva: Fifth Anniversary exhibition at ICPNA Gallery, La Molina, Lima.

2019: Awarded funding from the Ministry of Culture to organize festivals, enabling the first Amazonian Art Biennial in Pucallpa, Ucayali.

2020: Participation in Hello World, an event by Transcultural Exchange. Virtual gatherings led to the creation of the Centro Selva Arte y Ciencia Collective, formed by former residency participants.

2022: Invitation to participate in Transcultural Exchange, Boston. Participation in Espacios Revelados Lima with the proposal De Velos Existentes, an initiative by the Siemens Stiftung International Foundation, promoting artistic interventions in public and underutilized spaces to highlight their social and historical significance.

2023: Collaboration with the IPANAMU Festival. Awarded funding from the Ministry of Culture for Proyecto Origen, a series of exhibitions addressing the disappearance of the Amazon River’s tributaries. The project was developed by the Centro Selva Collective, composed of former Centro Selva residency participants.

2024: Collaboration begins with Amazonikas, led by director Nora Carrasco Apaza, exploring new formats for artist residencies.

2025: Invitation to participate in Transcultural Exchange 2025, Boston, USA.
